Renesas Electronics Corporation, global industry experts in embedded processing, microcontrollers, and semiconductor system solutions, has announced completion of its acquisition of the Greece-based Irida Labs, a developer of embedded software technologies for AI-powered visual perception systems.

According to Renesas, the acquisition expands the company’s edge AI embedded processing portfolio while accelerating development of system-level Vision AI solutions integrating embedded hardware, software, and AI perception capabilities. The company stated that the acquisition supports applications across industrial automation, robotics, smart cities, IoT infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and machine vision environments.

The acquisition also aligns with Renesas’ broader Digitalization strategy. Renesas stated that Irida Labs’ software and development tools will be integrated into Renesas 365, the company’s cloud-based platform designed to support electronics system development, deployment, and lifecycle management workflows.

As demand continues increasing for intelligent edge-based systems, developers are facing growing complexity associated with AI deployment, embedded processing constraints, AI model training, and latency-related challenges involving real-time data processing. According to Renesas, Vision AI software plays a central role in interpreting and processing visual information from cameras and sensors used across industrial inspection, robotics guidance, automotive sensing, infrastructure monitoring, smart retail analytics, and safety systems.

Renesas stated that integrating Irida Labs’ Vision AI software with its RA microcontrollers (MCUs) and RZ microprocessors (MPUs) will support development of high-performance, power-efficient edge AI platforms intended for rapid deployment within industrial and embedded computing environments.

“This acquisition accelerates our efforts to simplify how intelligence is designed and deployed at the edge,” said Gaurang Shah, Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Processing Product Group. “With Irida Labs’ Vision AI tools, software and highly competent AI engineers now part of Renesas, our solution brings together AI perception, embedded processing, development tools and system integration to significantly reduce the learning curve for developers. As a result, they can rapidly develop, train and deploy edge AI systems without deep AI knowledge.”

Vassilis Tsagaris, CEO & Co-Founder of Irida Labs, added, “The joining of Irida Labs into Renesas marks an important milestone in our edge vision AI journey. By combining Irida Labs’ edge Vision AI expertise and our PerCV.ai software with Renesas hardware and global ecosystem, we open up exciting new opportunities to deliver meaningful impact on edge AI worldwide. I am proud of what the team has built, and genuinely excited to take it forward together with Renesas, turning our shared vision into reality.”

Prior to the acquisition, Renesas and Irida Labs collaborated on embedded Vision AI solutions integrating Irida Labs’ PerCV.ai software with Renesas RA and RZ devices. Renesas stated that bringing these capabilities in-house will support tighter system integration and accelerated deployment of Vision AI solutions.

The company also plans to incorporate Irida Labs’ software and development tools into the Renesas 365 platform, which launched in March 2026 with support for RA MCUs, software, and related development toolchains. According to Renesas, future additions to the platform are intended to provide developers with a more seamless workflow for Vision AI and deep-learning application development.
